United Cerebral Palsy of MetroBoston is a Medicaid approved Personal Care Attendant Agency offering evaluation, skills training, PCA management training and ongoing support and advocacy to enable individuals with disabilities to access this Medicaid-funded program. Through this program, individuals receive the assistance and training necessary to hire and supervise their own care providers, thus enabling them to remain living in their chosen home.
The Personal Care Attendant (PCA) Program is a MassHealth/Medicaid-funded program that helps people with long-term disabilities live at home by providing the funds to hire attendants to assist with personal care tasks. These services provide physical assistance with activities of daily living that the individual cannot complete because of his or her disability. Activities may include the following:
- Bathing or grooming
- Dressing and undressing
- Taking medications
- Range of Motion Exercises
Assistance may also be provided with certain activities that assist the individual in maintaining his or her home such as:
- Preparing meals and cleaning up after a meal
- Grocery shopping
- Maintain adaptive equipment such as a wheelchair
- Assistance in attending medical appointments
As a MassHealth–approved Personal Care Attendant Agency, UCP provides intake and orientation services to help individuals learn about the program; evaluation by a Registered Nurse and occupational Therapist to determine eligibility for the program; and on-going skills training, if needed and/or desired, to enable individuals to make effective use of the program.
